From 5th August, new legislation has reshaped the landscape of the UK g*n trade, bringing
stricter controls to both current and aspiring shooters. While intended to enhance safety,
these changes risk creating barriers to entry for one of the UK’s most cherished countryside
traditions: shooting experiences.
Applicants for firearm licences must now undergo enhanced background checks, mandatory
GP assessments, and even social media screenings. Police interviews with family members
regarding domestic violence are also required, and newcomers must provide two referees
instead of one. Combined with police backlogs, some stretching beyond two years, this is a
potential daunting process that could dissuade potential shooters altogether. We’re here to
support you through these changes and offer advice and knowledge on how to navigate this
new landscape.
For seasoned enthusiasts, we want to know if this causing you frustration?
At Carter Outdoor Pursuits, we understand the importance of regulation, but we also
believe that responsible, passionate shooters should be supported, not deterred. Since
2018, Nick Carter has been dedicated to creating unforgettable shooting UK days that blend

The future of shooting depends on balancing safety with accessibility. By working together
as a community, we can keep the tradition alive for generations to come.
