The UK is home to some of the world’s finest shooting estates, offering unforgettable

shooting experiences steeped in tradition, skill, and countryside heritage. For enthusiasts

planning their next outing, understanding the game seasons is essential to ensure a

respectful and legal day in the field.

At Carter Outdoor Pursuits, we’re passionate about the rhythm of the countryside and the

excitement of the season. Here’s a quick guide to help you plan your next day’s sport across

the best shooting estates in the UK.

Game Shooting Seasons in the UK

Grouse: The season kicks off with the “Glorious Twelfth” – 12th August – and runs

until 10th December. These fast, low-flying birds offer an exhilarating challenge on

the moors.

Partridge: Starts on 1st September and ends 1st February. Whether English or

French (red-legged), partridges are popular for their sporting flight.

Pheasant: The most iconic of all – in season from 1st October to 1st February. A well-

presented pheasant is a highlight of any shoot.

Duck and Goose (inland): From 1st September to 31st January, offering a thrilling

alternative for wildfowlers.

Whether you're looking for a single peg day or a full team experience, Carter Outdoor

Pursuits has exclusive access to some of the most prestigious shooting estates UK wide.
